US Rivers
Over the last 100 years, many of our rivers in the coastal United States were polluted due to industrialization. Fish died off, and the water was no longer clean enough to swim in. One example of this is the Hudson River in New York. The first Europeans explored the Hudson 400 years ago, and ever since it has been a major trade route. Major corporations dumped so much of their waste there that it was one of the most polluted waterways in the country. There were court cases about the Hudson and the polluters had to help clean it up. Many different groups worked to make it cleaner, and now we participate in a program called Trout in the Classroom. We raise baby trout and then we release them back into the Hudson. Would a program like this work where you live?

Hello Jasmine! We too have a Coastal Resource Management Program run by the City Government of Masbate. We also have a Coastal Resource Management Interpretive Center (CRMIC), this center is a hub of all CRM related information, education and communication. We also participates in Coastal Clean-Up drive here in Masbate City

It is not shocking to see the sea turning black and fishes dying in industrialized areas. I am living in a community here, not too near to the sea yet not too far. I have observed that when houses were built near the sea and when the population started to grow. the sea turns black, trashes were thrown, a piece, a piece, a piece, until it started to pile up like a pool of garbages. The city govenment boosted up they’re action to this. I am a highschool student, and every year, we have the “COASTAL CLEAN UP DRIVE”, that is a national movement wherein students of different organizations are tasked to help in cleaning the shores where trashes are usually stocked. We also have the CRMIC here to educate students and even those who want to learn about the latest situation of the sea here in Masbate. Aside from that the City Government of Masbate provided a job for those illegal fishers like the “BANTAY-DAGAT”, it is a group of fisherman who help in securing the sea, they make sure that there is no illegal fishing done but of course they are not that perfect to see what is happening in just a second but the good thing here is that the members of this “BANTAY DAGAT” were illegal fishers before. it is indeed a wise move to turn illegal fishers to guadians of the sea, of course to help eliminate illegal fishing. We also have the “I Love the Ocean Movement” to orient the students and citizens with accompanying activities, proving how active this movement is. The City Govenment of Masbate is now doing it’s best and it is now in full alert to guard and protect our sea.

I live in New York City, after litter is collected, they use the proscess of landfill. they dig the ground and then they bury all of the garbages. but what happens after they run out of ground to bury trash? it will probably go to the water.
