Chat Room/Discussion Room for EIA ReviewersPosted by Tong Taclibon (EIARC) on November 26, 1999 at 01:26:11: The Phil Govt. is implementing a project where the mouth of the Pasig River will be dredged and the dredged materials - contaminated with heavy metals and organic pollutants- will be dumped into an engineered containment structure near the Engineer's Island which is just a few kilometers from the mouth of the river. The technology is said to be sound and the contained sediments are not supposed to escape from the 40-hectare containment facility. IT will be good for the proponent and the EIA Reviewers to have in this forum a place where we can exchange ideas and ventilate our concerns with respect to the impact of the facility to the coastal zone and Manila Bay itself. Anybody who wants to comment/discuss the matter, please pitch in.
